Boxing legend Muhammad Ali was honored for his involvement with the Medal of Freedom. The now 70-year-old is already active for decades for religious freedom and civil rights. At the ceremony held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia sent word by his Parkinson's disease visibly weakened over his wife Lonnie Ali, this recognition was "a great honor and overwhelming." The "Liberty Award" is presented annually and is one of the highest civilian awards in the United States. The former South African president, Nelson Mandela, and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter received the Medal of Freedom already.
