Book Review: KJV Bride's Bible





The KJV Bride's Bible totes a very pretty, feminine, lacy pattern on the cover, similar to what you'd find on a wedding dress. (The photo above is much darker than the actual pattern. It's more of a beige/champagne print on white and reminds me of my grandmother's wall paper!) It comes in a gift box that reads, "God's Word for Your Wedding Day," and has several pages in the front to mark the bride's special day. There are lines to fill in with the wedding date, names of bride and groom, attendants and so forth. There are also pages where photographs can be attached.



This Bible is a standard King Jame's Version of the Bible, with the words of Christ in red. In the front there's the Table of Contents, as well as each book listed alphabetically. In the back of the Bible, there is a concordance, followed by 7 biblical maps. This Bible does not have a lot of bells and whistles, such as commentaries or time lines. It's plain and simple.



But, what is great about this Bible is it's size--it's about as big as my hand. It is small and compact and that is great for a mom carrying a purse, a diaper bag, and a baby into the church on Sunday morning! That is the main reason why I chose the Bible. I know that I can tuck it into my purse and take it anywhere with me. It is very lightweight and compared to my current "go-to-church" Bible, it's a feather. I love the convenience it offers because of its size.



The only thing I would change about it is the font size. It's pretty small and well, a larger font would be nice. At any rate, great choice if you're looking for a sweet gift for a bride or you want a smaller Bible to carry to church or Bible study.

Salt

On Sunday, my pastor preached from Mark 9:42-50 and the message of that sermon is so relevant. . .but isn't that the way of God's Word, always relevant??

Here are some notes I took away from the sermon:



Salt is preservation, it's applied to meat to keep it from spoiling.

So, if we are to be salt in the earth, salt in this world, salt in our culture, then we, as the Body of Christ, are charged with preserving the morals in our culture, keeping it from decay. . .

How well are we doing that?

As the salt of the earth, are we adding the flavor of the Gospel in our circles of association?

Are we preserving our culture, keeping it from moral decay?

Are we participating in things that will lead others astray--the thinking is, if holy men and women are doing "it" (whatever it may be), then it must be okay, right?

Don't you know that we are being watched? Don't you know that we are being looked to for seasoning, preservation, salt?

If the way we live our lives as Christians, as believers, doesn't reflect the character of God, then what good are we? What is salt good for if it loses it flavor? If hardly anything about they way we live sets us apart from the ways of the world, then how can we season those around us? How can we help to preserve them?

No matter what is popular, what is cool, what the latest thing is, who our favorite political candidate is, what everyone else is doing. . . no matter what, we are called to be salt first, our allegiance is to Him, our lives are for Him...Him and Him alone.



". . .but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, ¹⁶ because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy."

Break: Week 1

In my life this week…

I've been cleaning!!! I have been so glad to tackle my housework head on. I know that sounds strange--who wants to scrub toilets?! But, seriously, I'm glad to get my house in order again. No matter how many children you already have, having a baby changes everything!



In our homeschool this week…

We've completed week 1 of our 2 week break! No school work, but everyone does have to read each day. And, the girls still practice piano! The kids are really enjoying the break. They've been watching a few of their favorite shows and movies, playing lots of board games, pretending the laundry room is a clubhouse, eating popsicles at bedtime, and they even got to play outside again!



Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Don't be afraid to take a break! I was, for fear that we wouldn't finish everything. When the baby was born, we took about 5 weeks off and I've felt like we've been behind ever since. But, we've worked hard and are due a bit of rest.



I am inspired by…

Christian wives and mothers who are willing to honestly share their journeys. . . there is so much to learn when we open up to each other.



Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Pediatrician and ENT for baby JD. . .praise the Lord, he is well!



My favorite thing this week was…

I've been able to sleep in a few days this week, and getting back to more routine exercise.



What’s working for us…

A Scripture memory system, found HERE. We needed a better way to memorize Scripture and this works so well for us. This system, at first glance may seem complicated, but it really isn't. If you're looking to memorize Scripture, please check the site out; there's even a video explaining it all!



Things I’m working on…

Piecing together new curriculum materials for the next level. It's exciting this time around because I have a better idea of what works for us and what does not, and what I need to do differently. Year 2 of homeschooling, here we come!!!

The love my Saviour has for me.

A Psalm of Promises

I've been doing the "Run to Him" Bible Study this winter, which is a study of various Psalms. Oh, it has been a blessing! Each week, we study a Psalm, with different things to look for in the passage each day. Days 3 and 4 are my favorite, because we note the promises and commands listed in the Scripture.



This week, we're studying Psalm 34, and today I'm looking at the promises! This Psalm is so rich and full of the promises of God. . .it has just been a blessing to me this week. This verse sums it all up:

"Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;

Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!"

-Psalm 34:8

I encourage you to read Psalm 34. Then afterward, try God. Give Him a chance. Put your trust in Him. Rest securely in His promises, for He is a Promise-Keeper!

Dizzy Mommy, Chubby Baby, and Homeschool Review

In my life this week…

Lot's to do. . . my baby boy had his 8-week doctor appointment on Tuesday. Has it been 8 weeks already??? He is a whopping 13lbs 7oz now!! But he is healthy and doing well and I am grateful.

I had to go to the doctor also, because of vertigo/dizziness. . . all due to ear wax! EAR WAX!! Unbelievable! Ear wax is pressing against my eardrum and is making me feel like I'm on a merry-go-round! The blessing is that it is only due to ear wax and not something more serious. Thank you, Lord!

In our homeschool this week…

We had our first (state- required) homeschool portfolio review this week. YIKES!! . . . or so I thought--but I had no reason to feel that way. It went wonderfully well. My reviewer is a fellow sister in Christ and a former homeschooling mother. Her words were, "I am not the homeschooling police!" A good portion of our review time was spent sharing our stories as daughters, wives, and mothers--fellowship. I am once again humbled and blessed and grateful to God.

I am inspired by…

Crafty, artsy, people! Especially those that share their talents and explain how others can be crafty and artsy, too!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We are going to church on Sunday!!!! We haven't been since the baby was born and the whole family is pretty much itching to get back. I'm kind of "old school" when it comes to newborns, meaning I don't take them out much (especially in crowds) until 2 months. It's my "Granny" in me.

My favorite things this week were…

My children re-enacted a "scene" from the Bible, when Israelites defeated the Amalekites (Exodus 17:8-15). In this passage, whenever Moses lifted up his staff, the Israelites had the advantage over the enemy. As he grew tired and lowered his arms, the enemy would advance. So, Aaron and Hur came alongside Moses, gave him a rock to sit on, and held his arms up for him.

Moses with Aaron-ita and Hur-ita! LOL (I had to come up with those names because my girls are girly-girls!

They both looked at me like "we could NEVER be named Aaron or Hur!")

Questions/thoughts I have…

Art curriculum? Piano lessons? Affordability? African-American history for the month? Field trips? I want to learn to sew!

Things I’m working on…

Drinking more water. Exercise. Finding a sewing class, maybe. Getting a sewing machine. . .any suggestions? Getting back into doing my housework regularly, now that schooling is in full swing. Affordable piano lessons. . .stay tuned for more info. . .

Nothing tonight. . .Husband said he'd take us out. The kids have been talking about it all week. This morning, they celebrated. LOL! I told you we haven't been out much!

I’m grateful for…

My mom's help for the month of January--and thanks to my Dad for sharing!! She's leaving on Sunday :o( But she helped us through all the fun, excitement, and rough patches that a new, squeezable baby brings! Thanks, MOM!!!!!!

Strength, rest, energy, and no dizziness.
